Questions, answered
Do my devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi?
Yes. Tandem syncs over the local network only, so your Mac and iPhone should be on the same Wi-Fi (or the same LAN). Nothing goes through the cloud.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no cloud. You pair your devices once with a QR or 6-digit code and you are done.
What can I sync?
Text, links, code snippets and colors in Core. Tandem Pro adds files and images up to 50 MB, all end-to-end encrypted.
What does the iPhone app send to Tandem?
Nothing to us. iPhone data moves only between your paired devices over the local network.
What are the system requirements?
macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later on the Mac, and iOS 16 or later on iPhone.
How is this different from Apple’s Universal Clipboard?
Universal Clipboard keeps no history — each copy overwrites the last — cannot transfer arbitrary files, and can be unreliable. Tandem syncs continuously, keeps a searchable history, and transfers files up to 50 MB, all without your data ever leaving the local network.
